Six women scientists discovery

The discovery of a new hominin species is making headlines around the world  but what many people don't realize is that the excavation team that uncovered this historic find was made up of six daring women scientists! The fossils were found at the bottom of a cave system in South Africa; one of the scientists, Marina Elliott, said that their collection and removal involved "some of the most difficult and dangerous conditions ever encountered in the search for human origins.” Thanks to the dedication of these six women, people everywhere will have the opportunity to gain new insight into the development of our species.

[Video] WHY ARE WE HUMAN ? : An egyption woman molested brutally 02/07/2013 !

A disturbing video .. a woman brutally molested in public by Egyptian non-human-beings
SHAME ON YOU SHAME ON YOU SHAME ON YOU ALL !
WOMEN SHOULD BURN THESE CRIMINALS AND FIGHT THEM ! WOMEN SHOULD MAKE THEIR OWN REVOLUTION

LINK TO THE VIDEO

Lotika Sarkar - Indian Icon - Pioneering feminist & lawyer but teacher foremost

Lotika Sarkar had several firsts to her credit, apart from being the first Indian woman to graduate with a doctorate from Cambridge and to take professorship at Delhi University. She was one of the signatories of the open letter to the Chief Justice of India that triggered reforms of rape laws in the eighties and one of those who took leadership in exposing the practice of female foeticide through amniotic fluid tests.
She often stated that the membership of the Committee on the Status of Women and travel through the length and breadth of the country sharpened her understanding of gender discrimination, which prompted all her subsequent public policy interventions.
She took premature retirement from the University of Delhi to be one of the founding members of the Centre for Women Development Studies.
While Lotika Sarkar’s contribution to the cause of the rights of women is notable, her contribution as a teacher is exceptional.
Despite her multitude of other roles, Prof Sarkar never side-lined her responsibilities as a teacher. She was a teacher who taught enough to excite, to reflect, to question but never to take over.
You could never write a research paper for Prof Sarkar passing off the opinion of another as your own. She would not just, like we do today, throw an academic misconduct policy or charge of plagiarism at you - she would also persistently ask, “But why do you think so?”
Her probing and persistent questions would get students to realise that appropriating the work of another was both dishonest and painful. And if the pain of justification and defence had to be undergone, it was better to undergo that pain for something you created yourself; with such pain would also came the pleasure of creation and ownership.
With this realization she helped her students to internalise the values of intellectual integrity and of doing the right thing, irrespective of consequences, because it is the right thing to do.
It is ordinarily believed that the classroom is the designated place of operation of a teacher and her teaching responsibilities are primarily to her students.
But Lotika Sarkar’s teaching activities were neither limited to the classroom nor to her students. All those who came into contact with her, in the university and outside, learned from her.
They learned the values of dignity, integrity, humour and grace; learned to stand up for their beliefs; learned to be themselves and to be happy about it. This large family of friends, admirers, students and votaries celebrated her life in a collection of essays entitled Engendering Law - a celebration which did not cease after publication of the essays.
Lotika Sarkar belonged to an era which believed in relationships not networking. She cultivated friendships for the richness they gave to life; and nurtured friends by helping them believe in themselves.
She is survived by all those who feel she made them who they are by giving to each of them a bit of herself.
It is with eternal gratitude that I, on behalf of her innumerable students, bid farewell to this pioneering feminist of the law academy; to a teacher who revelled foremost in the successes of her creations and who did not cease to give till the very end.

Niloofar Rhmani became the first woman to graduate from the Afghan Air Force since the 1980s

Last month, Niloofar Rhmani became the first woman to graduate from the Afghan Air Force since the 1980s, and her story is making her a popular symbol of changing times.
The 21-year-old from Kabul was awarded her flying wings on May 14 aftersuccessfully completing the air force's undergraduate pilot training program, according to the Washington Times. The program demanded roughly 145 flying hours, and Rhmani spent nearly a year learning English to qualify. "First, it was my ambition, and second, I want to show that Afghanistan can have female pilots," she told the Times.
Rhmani's story has received nearly 30,000 upvotes since being posted to Reddit on Tuesday.
"That woman just overcame not only the pilot training, but massive cultural resistance to get where she is. Massive respect is due," wrote user AttackTribble.
Another user, an Afghan male who grew up outside the country, wrote, "I'm proud that she's giving hope to all the little girls back home who have to better themselves under daily threats of violence. I hope this is the beginning of changing attitudes back home."
While some sources have claimed that Rhmani is Afghanistan's first female pilot, other reports have proved otherwise.
Still, Rhmani is hoping her success will pave the way for more women to pursue their dreams.
"Now my goal is to help my country have a bright future and stand up for females. I helped break down the doors for them after me," Rhmani said in a story published on the website of the U.S. Air Forces Central Command.

Bomb Kills Afghan Women's Affairs Ministry

NANGAHAR, Afghanistan -- Officials in Afghanistan say a woman who worked as a provincial director for the Ministry Of Women's Affairs has been killed in a bomb explosion.

Police say the bomb that killed Hanifa Safi, the women's affairs chief in the eastern Laghman Province, had apparently been attached to her vehicle.

Her husband and a young daughter were also reported injured in the July 13 attack in the Laghman capital, Mehtarlam.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.

But officials said the attack is similiar to previous assaults by Taliban militants targeting Afghan government officials and Afghan and foreign forces.

The United Nations condemned the attack.

"The deliberate killing of a brave woman and a public servant, dedicated to improving the situation of Afghan women and working for the safety and security of her country, is an
outrage," said Jan Kubis, its representative to Kabul.

Taliban film execution of woman accused of adultery in Afghanistan

The film shows the woman being riddled with bullets at close range, in front of a cheering crowd of men.

Why world must react to Taliban execution

By Zainab Salbi, Special to CNN
(CNN) -- The execution of Najiba, an Afghan woman in her 20's, shot 13 times in front of a cheering crowed in Parwan province -- and seen widely online in a grainy cell phone video -- is a show of confidence by the Taliban.
It's unclear why she was shot, but local officials offer various reasons for her execution.
She was reportedly executed last month for adultery, a crime that is indeed punishable in Islam. But for an adultery charge to be proved, Islam requires four eyewitness accounts that match precisely.
This is nearly impossible in cultures like Najiba's, where sexual acts are extremely discrete. But that religious requirement is irrelevant in any case to the Taliban, whose fanatic view of Islam has been nothing but a violation of the spirit of the religion itself.
After an hour-long trial, Najiba was shot either by her Taliban husband or someone else. (One version of the story is she had affairs with two Taliban members.) But this case is less about Najiba and more about the Taliban demonstrating its power, even as the United States and Afghanistan attempt negotiations with the Taliban.
You see, women are like the canary in the coal mine: What happens to them is an indicator of a larger political direction for the society.
The Taliban has consistently used women to demonstrate its power. When it first took over much of Afghanistan in 1996, it imposed the harshest seclusion and prosecution of women in modern history. Afghan women suffered under house imprisonments. They were forbidden education and any form of mobility, to name only a few of its brutal prohibitions.

Why women fac
But when the international community entered Afghanistan in 2001 and started introducing laws to protect women's rights, albeit in very basic ways, the Taliban retreated as its political and military power was weakened. In the past two years, however, and particularly since the international community started talking about withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban began boldly resuming its own rules in provinces where they have recently regained control, such as Parwan province. And this has been reflected in one act of violence toward women after another.
Through such public acts -- sometimes recorded, as this one was -- the Taliban is demonstrating its complete disregard of the Afghan government and the national rule of law.
Women's rights cannot be taken lightly, nor can they be seen as a marginal issue separate from the political process of a country. The international community entered Afghanistan with a clear promise to protect women's rights and invest in creating opportunities for women to stand up on their feet.
Afghan women took advantage of the opportunities that were presented. They ran for and took political offices, they sent their daughters to school, they took loans from microcredit entities and started new business, and they worked in factories all at personal risks.
They are now asking whether the international community is planning to abandon them as forces prepare to depart Afghanistan in 2014, and they are worried, very worried indeed.
Educated and uneducated women working in all sectors in the country are asking the same question: "Is the international community going to sacrifice its promise to protect us from the rule of the Taliban in order to reach political settlement with it?"
If it is, then all the efforts of every soldier, every taxpayer, every humanitarian worker who has worked -- and in some cases, died -- in Afghanistan will have been in vain.
To abandon the protection of women's rights to seek political agreement with a force of repression is to risk a return not only to insecurity in Afghanistan, but I'd dare say to the world.
The Taliban only started its acts of violence with women. We have to remember that it did not stop there. That violence eventually affected every Afghan man and child, and it eventually came to America and impacted the world.
The taping of Najiba's execution is the Taliban's message that it is confident. What's going to be the message back to them from the Afghan government and the international community? Will it be to demonstrate that women's rights and protections are valued in actions, in addition to the political statements already made condemning the execution? We all are responsible for the answer to that question.

Chile: A woman , brutally beaten by a her husband a police officer. His co-worker and friend changed the woman's statements and accused her of being the attacker of her husband !!! she spend all day in prison and treated like a criminal while being innocent and a victim ! Where is justice ?

Comments By our friend Ruth:

Violence against women is above all a social phenomenon. It is a fact that testifies the existence of oppression of women in today's global society, in which she is a victim culturally legitimized, based on the learning of sexualized roles and which grants the man a position of power. How long will we tolerate these undignified facts?
