ABORTION - WORLD DISPARITY -1- IRL / USA / TN

The UN clear that taking away healthcare access is a violation of human rights. We are in 2016 but women don't have the full choice to proceed or not for abortion. Where women struggle the most to access safe and legal abortion procedures ? USA ? Ireland ? or Tunisia. Let's find out.

IRELAND :
Savita Halappanavar, do you remember that name?
She was a 31 years old dentist, indian, married and living in Galaway Ireland. She died after being denied abortion.

Her death led to protests and discussion of abortion laws in Ireland.

"Any woman who has an abortion in Ireland faces up to 14 years in prison."

Ireland is still governed under the 1861 Offences Against The Person act.
abortion has also been constitutionally prohibited since 1983. It's a crisis for women who want to terminate their prenancy. According to the UK Department of health "women from the island of Ireland accounted for 82.6% of abortions provided to non-British residents last year." Nine women have to travel every single day to access safe abortions.

USA

Since 2011, states have enacted 320 abortion restrictions (and counting). The restriction run the gamut from waiting periods to requiring medically inaccurate counseling to mandating ultrasounds which are medically unnecessary. Some have been stopped by courts, some have been upheld on appeals, and the Supreme Court is now poised to decide the fate of a Texas law that would shutter all but a handful of abortion providers in the states. Dozens more restrictions have been introduced.

After the wave of anti-abortion laws, US sees signs of women taking drastic measures and dangerous methods to end their pregnancie. With access to safe, legal methods becoming increasingly limited, some women are taking matters into their own hands with black-market remedies.

Between 100,000 and 240,000 Texas women have tried to self-induce abortions at some point in their lives.
In Texas, where legislators in 2013 passed a law that required doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic where they practice, about half of the state's abortion clinics have closed. The U.S. Supreme Court is now hearing arguments about whether that state's law places an undue burden on the constitutional right to an abortion.
